1.  112th Mann Ki Baat programme (Sunday) Highlights

(a) PM Modi has asserted that the rising sales of Khadi and handloom products in the country are creating new job opportunities.

(b)  National Handloom Day will be celebrated in the country on the 7th of next month.

(c)  PM Modi expressed pride on inclusion of Charaideo Maidam of Assam in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Prime Minister highlighted that it will be the 43rd site of India in the list, and the first Cultural World Heritage site from the Northeast.

(d)  Speaking about the pressing issue of drug abuse in the country, PM Modi outlined the government's proactive measures to combat this growing menace.

(e) PM Modi also asked listeners to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, with 15th August approaching. He encouraged people to upload their selfies with the Tricolour on 'harghartiranga.com'.

2.  The two day conclave of Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states called Mukhyamantri Parishad concluded in New Delhi.

3.  President Smt. Droupadi Murmu has appointed new Governors in different States.

(a) Former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde has been appointed Governor of Rajasthan.

(b) Former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed Governor of Telangana.

(c)  Former Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan Om Prakash Mathur appointed as Governor of Sikkim.

(d)  Former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has been appointed as Governor of Jharkhand.

(e)  Former Lok Sabha MP from Assam Ramen Deka appointed as Governor of Chhattisgarh.

(f)  Former Karnataka Minister C H Vijayashankar has been appointed as Governor of Meghalaya.

(g)  C.P. Radhakrishnan who is presently Governor of Jharkhand has been appointed as Governor of Maharashtra.

(h)  Gulab Chand Kataria who is currently Assam Governor has been appointed Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

(j)  Lakshman Prasad Acharya who is currently Sikkim Governor appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge as Governor of Manipur.

(k) Former IAS officer K. Kailashnathan has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry..

4.  In Telangana, field survey pertaining to integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) survey of properties starting on July 30, the GHMC in a press release issued on Saturday urged the people to keep photocopies of the documents ready and hand it over to the surveyors who will visit their homes.

5.  Political strategist-turned-activist and founder of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj will be christened a political party on 2 October, Gandhi Jayanti. Jan Suraaj which started as a campaign in Bihar, will be registered as a political party this year.

6.  The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is set to develop India’s first integrated agricultural export facility at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai. The project, approved by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, is valued at Rs. 284.19 crore and will cover an area of 67,422 square meters.

8.   The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the implementation of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS)--based toll collection system at select national highways, terminating the existing traditional toll collection methods.

GNSS-based user fee collection system has been conducted on the Bengaluru-Mysore section of NH-275 in Karnataka and the Panipat-Hisar section of NH-709 in Haryana.

9.  Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian has said that the government is working for the inclusive development of the minorities and it is moving forward with the Prime Minister’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayaas.

10.  National Testing Agency, NTA has declared the result of the Common University Entrance Test – CUET (UG) 2024. The entrance test was conducted for over 14.99 lakh registered candidates.

11.  The Ministry of Education will celebrate the fourth anniversary of the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, NEP 2020 with Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam ABSS, 2024 at Manekshaw Centre Auditorium in New Delhi.

13.   The Gujarat high court has issued summons to the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from the Surat Lok Sabha constituency, Mukesh Dalal, over two petitions challenging his uncontested victory.

14.  After social media outrage over a Budget proposal making it mandatory to get tax clearance certificates for going abroad, the government on Sunday clarified that the proposed amendment is not for all. Only those accused of financial irregularities or having substantial tax arrears need such clearance.

LEGAL REPORT

1.  The Supreme Court will organize a Special Lok Adalat week starting today till the 3rd of next month. This initiative commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Apex Court.

2.  The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the result of the Common University Entrance Test - CUET (UG) 2024. The entrance test was conducted for over 14 lakh 99 thousand registered candidates. These candidates had applied for various combinations of subjects across 283 Central, State, and other participating universities and Institutions for the Academic session 2024-2025.

3.  Climate activist Soman Wangchuk announced on Sunday that he will launch a 28-day fast on Independence Day if the government does not invite Ladakh authorities for talks on demands for statehood and constitutional protection for the union territory.

Delhi Police has registered a first information report (FIR) and formed multiple teams to probe the Rajinder Nagar coaching centre flooding incident which killed three IAS aspirants.

FINANCE

1.  The Reserve Bank of India has imposed penalties on three payment system operators, namely Visa Worldwide, Ola Financial Services, and Manappuram Finance, for the companies failure to adhere to regulatory compliance.

2.  The Government has approved setting up of 7 (Seven) PM Mega Integrated Textile Region. Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks in Greenfield/Brownfield sites (including a Greenfield project in Virudhanagar Tamil Nadu) with world class infrastructure including plug and play facility with an outlay of Rs. 4,445 cr for a period of seven years upto 2027-28.

3.  Centre Clears Urban Flood Management Projects Worth ₹2,514.36 cr Of 5 States.

Approved six project proposals in the states of Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, West Bengal and Maharashtra at a total cost of Rs. 2514.36 crore for Urban Flood Management in six metro cities, namely Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.

1. Akshay Kumar's 'Sarfira' becomes his 7th disaster in two years, actor's films reportedly incur losses of over Rs 1000 crore :  The Khiladi of Bollywood, who has dominated the industry by giving back-to-back money spinners, has been going through a rough patch as his recent films including Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Mission Raniganj, Ram Setu, Selfiee, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and the latest one Sarfira bombed at the box office.

DEFENCE

1.  Eastern Navy Commander Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar visited INS Karanj, the third submarine of the Scorpene class in the Indian Navy, on Friday.

2.  The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has resumed the use of India-donated helicopters and Dornier aircraft to transport patients. The Indian helicopters are operated jointly by the Indian army and the MNDF and are used to airlift medical patients in Maldives.

3.  Contingents from India, China, Australia, Japan, U.S., U.K. are among the participants from 23 countries at Khaan Quest; the exercise prepares armed forces to conduct joint peacekeeping operations. Indian Army contingent participate in the ongoing 21st edition of the multinational joint military exercise Khaan Quest 2024.

4.  Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted Indian Navy personnel onboard Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar, which is participating in Russia's Navy Day celebrations.

5.  The defence ministry is working on developing a light tank for the Indian Army for deployment at high-altitude area of the country, with a prototype already built, the Parliament was informed on Friday. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth gave the information in a written response to a query on project 'Zorawar'.

1.  International Tiger Day will be celebrated across the world.  International Tiger Day seeks to rally collective efforts, garner public support, and promote sustainable initiatives to ensure the future of tigers.

2.  External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday in Tokyo ahead of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting. 1.  At least nine people, including two women, have been killed and several seriously injured in a stampede during musician Mike Kalambayi’s concert held at Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

2.  The Turkish parliament has approved a motion to deploy elements of the Turkish Armed Forces to Somalia, including to its maritime jurisdiction areas. The Turkish forces will be stationed in Somalia for two years to assist with security efforts against terrorism and other threats.

3.  A rocket attack on a football stadium in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights resulted in the deaths of at least 12 people on Friday. Israeli authorities blamed Hezbollah for the attack and promised to impose a severe response on the Iran-backed Lebanese group.

4.  Former US President and Republican Party’s nominee for upcoming Presidential elections Donald Trump has pledged to turn America into the crypto capital of the planet and the Bitcoin superpower of the world if elected.

5.  An astrologer who correctly predicted the day Joe Biden would end his re-election campaign now has predicted who will be the next United States President. Dubbed as the "internet's most notorious astrologer", Amy Tripp said according to the stars, the next President could be Donald Trump.

6.  14 members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee who were en route to attend a rally in Gwadar on Saturday were injured after they came under fire at Mastung.   The Baloch Yakhjeti Committee, which called for the protest march, claimed that several of its cadre are critical after security forces fired at their convoy.

7.   A US-based organisation called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Taiwan to compete under its own name instead of "Chinese Taipei".

2.  OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 (26 JULY 2024 – 11 AUGUST 2024)

Ace Indian Shooter Manu Bhaker opened medals tally for India at the Paris Olympics with a bronze in Women's 10 meter air pistol event yesterday. Manu became the first Indian woman ever to win an Olympic medal in Shooting competition.

India's last shooting medals at the Olympics came in 2012 in London, where Vijay Kumar won bronze in the rapid-fire pistol event and Gagan Narang clinched bronze in the 10m air rifle competition.

3.  President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian shooter for opening India's medal tally. The President in her message said, India is proud of Manu Bhaker as her feat is going to inspire many sportspersons, especially women.

4.  Indian shuttler HS Prannoy outclassed Fabian Roth of Germany in straight games to win his first Men's singles match of Group K. Prannoy beat Roth 21-18, 21-12.
